The side dishes that make a KBBQ table feel like a KBBQ table. Banchan is a variety of small side dishes, usually veggies and fish cake, that are served for KBBQ.

Ingredients

  • steamed spinach
  • sliced garlic
  • bean sprouts
  • kimchi
  • spicy pickled cucumber
  • pink radishes
  • gochujang
  • sesame oil
  • sesame seeds
  • rice wine vinegar
  • gochugaru

Make it

  1. Start with blanching the spinach for a few minutes in boiling water. When plating, top with sliced garlic, sesame oil, and sesame seeds.

  2. Thinly slice the pink radishes and plate. These don’t need a sauce or seasoning — it’s a palate cleanser.

  3. For the bean sprouts, lightly pan-fry them with sesame oil, salt, and pepper.

  4. Make the cucumber with about 2 tbsp rice wine vinegar, gochugaru, and 1 tbsp of gochujang.

  5. Plate some jarred kimchi into a separate dish.
